free range Art Exhibition

free range @ Te Karanga - Photo Copyright: woowar.co.uk...what a great night! We had an awesome crowd turn up to support and peruse the art work and several sales were made both before and during the evening.

Huge thanks go out to all those who made the memorable night possible:

John & Julz @ Te Karanga - the kindest, most helpful gallery managers we could wish for...
Kfm Radio & Te Karanga gallery for hosting and publicising the show...
Organic World for generously donating delicious organic nibbles...
Friends and family who supported us through the last minute panics and helped out on the day...
All the lovely people who came along and all those who sent good wishes...

Thank you all so much!

If you couldn't make it along, don't worry, the show runs until Saturday 10th November so there is still time to view.

ArTea Party One Success!

The debut ArTea Party went swimmingly! Thank you so much to all those who were able to join us despite the atrocious weather blowing round Ponsonby on the day! Your support, generous raffle ticket purchases, art interest and sales were very much appreciated!

In the 2.5 hours ArTea Party ran, we sold several pieces of art work, almost 100 raffle tickets, heaps of Fairtrade cakes, muffins & cookies as well as Fairtrade tea & coffee through our kind hosts The Crib bar.

Together we raised $194.80 for Oxfam which will go towards their work to alleviate global poverty. Here are some examples of how the donation may be used:

$80 could enable Oxfam to provide safe drinking water for 50 people / $150 could enable Oxfam to help four women in Indonesia start their own business / $500 could enable Oxfam to provide technical and business training for coffee farmers in Timor-Leste / $1000 could enable Oxfam to construct living quarters for 2 teachers at a rural school in the Solomon Islands

Thanks once again to all our generous sponsors and supporters

Garden Fauna and Flora

awwww... our friendly garden hedgehogs who were making a rather bizarre hissing noise that kept us awake one night (until we went out and shuffled them along)!

Labour day bbq spread

We fired up the bbq over the Labour day weekend and Greg cooked us up a beautiful spread. We followed the food with some rugby (the Air New Zealand provincial cup final) with Waikato beating Wellington 37-31

Mairangi to Takapuna Beach Walk

Mairangi Beach
In preparation for January's Tongairio crossing Wendy, Leanne & Duncan joined us for an East Coast short tramp. After a pre-emptive and delicious pitstop at a bakery, we started out from Mairangi along the beach...

Having made good distance clambering over rocks and sand the incoming tide unfortunately meant we had to turn back - it was a bit too cold to swim!

Back on the road we searched for the Te Araroa walk signs which were so tiny, hunting for them took almost as much time as the journey itself (a bit like life huh!). Hence we found ourselves wandering in circles around JF Kennedy Memorial Park and the Rahopara Historic Reserve. The rain was quite refreshing at this point! Thankfully the sun came out again as we made our way through Castor Bay towards Milford after a short pit-stop at the children's playground...

Then we oooohed and ahhhhed at the huge, fabulously designed houses along Milford Beach. Following the North Shore City heritage trail (apparently over private property thanks to the good will of the owners - bless them!) we walked past Firth Cottage, Algie's Castle remnants...

Algie's Castle
the Sea Walls, took a seat in the Stone Throne...

Giant's Seat
...and admired the pretty flora, fabulous pohutukawa, stunning lava flow rock, and beautiful clear blue water.
